Postpartum Tips

Yaya! Congratulations you just had a baby or are preparing for your newborn. These were some of my go-to’s with my littles babes that helped me out immensely along with my support team of my husband and mama. Along with these items I recommend asking for help from a family member or friend you can count on that will do the heavy lifting of cooking, cleaning, making decisions so you can just concentrate on your new little. Congratulations I hope these suggestions can help you out on your journey of parenthood. You got this!

I started drinking this FGO raspberry leaf tea about 4-3 months before my due date with my 2nd daughter. I read and heard from my OBGYN that drinking raspberry leaf tea can aid in speeding up the process once you’re in labor. I was in labor with my first daughter for 31 1/2 hours and 13 hours of labor with my 2nd. I’m not a Dr. so don’t take my word for it. But either way this tea is delicious and I drank it iced during those hot summer months before I gave birth. Lovely.

This book, The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother, is simply wonderful. This book was a gift from my sissy and mama and I was overjoyed to receive it. I love the way the authors write with their encouraging and uplifting guidance. The recipes are delicious and advice for postpartum recovery was very helpful. Must read for any mama or parent to be and especially helpful if your support system reads this one too.

For all the nights you are up with your newborn this Kinur, lightbulb is so helpful. It adds a warm glow to the room to help keep everything soothing and calm, aiding in helping your little to go back to sleep sooner. Love it, wish I had it with my first.

For all you breast feeding mamas, this balm is the bomb. Lansinoh Organic nipple balm is a god send to help soothe those aching nips. Because, I will tell you something no one told me, even when your babe is latching correctly breast feeding will still hurt for about a month! It hurts bad, but you can do it mama, if you choose to. This nipple balm helps soothe and heal any cracks in your nipples so you can get to the non painful times of breast feeding.

Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Kit is fantastic. Comes with the mesh undies, the padsicles, cooling liners, foam and it all fits neatly in a caddy to go next to your potty. I bought this for my recovery but I also loaded up my hospital suitcase with as many mesh undies, pads for the ground, pads for me as the nurse would give me and with both births the nurses hooked it up. I went through so many mesh undies and pads and pads for the ground. This kit is a great back up in case they limit you at the hospital but the nurses are working so hard to take care of you mama and your little they will load you up, don’t be afraid to ask and then ask again. Also bring a fresh peri bottle home from the hospital to use at home and save you from buying one. The labor nurses and postpartum nurses are angels here on Earth.

Satin or silk scrunchies were a big go to for me postpartum. You can tie your hair up when you get one of the postpartum hot flashes and they WILL NOT leave a crease in your hair. This was ideal for me because I was so sleep deprived I was not spending time each day washing my hair. I wanted each wash and hair “styling” to last as long as possible. Made me feel a little bit more put together tired in jammies covered in spit up. It’s the little things. These Kitsch satin scrunchies are lovely and come in so many different color combos.

My second baby is a winter baby. I wore sweatpants and sweatsuits the entire postpartum time (honestly I’m still wearing them). I made sure to pick out sweatsuits that were either full zip or a long 1/2 zip so I could zip down low enough to be able to whip out a boob to nurse my tiny and still stay cozy. Pockets on the pants are key for your phone, tissue or chocolate (you know). These sweatsuits from Himosyber checks all the boxes. Soft, long 1/2 zip and pockets on them sweats and you can leave the house wearing them (when you’re ready). Lovely.

I know the Stanley is all the rage right now but I’m a loyal Yeti fan, no offense Stanley. I prefer the magnetic slide mouth closure to the straw, the straw just meant one more piece to clean and I already had enough bottles and pump parts. Hydrating is so important postpartum through water and broth and soups, especially if you are breast feeding. I also found the more water I drank throughout the day made my night sweats a bit more manageable. It’s a great travel mug when and won’t spill your water. Right on.

Snacks on the go. Not a fan of the extra packaging in general but the individual nut packs came in so helpful when you just need to eat something quickly between meals. These Nature’s Garden packs are delicious, healthy and provide some great Omega 3’s for you and breast feeding babe.

After my babes my stomach just felt a little loose and I wanted some support. Belly Bandits wraps helped with that. They also helped add some support for my back and abs that were healing postpartum. I loved it and started wearing it the day after giving birth. It was comfy and helpful for me.

I also lived in these Belly Bandit, mother tucker pants and shorts. I wore started wearing these a few months postpartum when I stopped wearing my belly band. I still wanted support for my tummy and my extra skin postpartum and these feel so good providing support and keeping everything snug.

I posted this recommendation in my Newborn Supplies post as well. I love them so much, especially having young kids I am going to post them again.

These shoes right here are a godsend. Hands-free slip on. It’s perfect, what more can you ask for as a new parent with hands full of baby, diaper bag, coffee, keys?! You don’t have to sit down to untie or tie laces as you’re trying to get out the door. What’s more is they are comfy and cute. I highly recommend.
